An Egyptian writer, a Polish poet, and an American photographer “meet” in a book about Genoa and Liguria: a work by three individuals which brings together different worlds and cultures, to help us see our region and our own people in a different way.
Luci e ombre di una città. Immagini di Genova is the result of a collaboration between the Cassa di Risparmio di Genova e Imperia Foundation and the Bogliasco Foundation, entitled “Fuori pagina: poesia e romanzo in discussione”, and dedicated to poetry and prose.
In view of the deep commitment of the Carige Foundation to support and spread culture, this collaboration was seen as a rare opportunity: the Bogliasco Foundation is, in fact, truly one of a kind in Liguria, a resource which has opened its doors to the entire world, playing host to foreign artists and scholars, to enable them to develop given creative projects.
Writer Ahdaf Soueif, poet Adam Zagajewski, and photographer John Hall were selected from among twenty or so artists from distant countries: they stayed in our region, getting to know it and finding the inspiration to create a book dedicated to Liguria. This book is therefore a composite work, a fascinating and original image of Genoa, reflecting the different sensibilities, cultural backgrounds and creativity of these artists.
It is also an initiative which suits the broader purpose of the Foundation: to operate within a European and international framework, stimulating cultural exchanges with Ligura as much as possible.
